Ardmore Roderick is seeking a Lead Field Engineer to join our team who will report directly to a Project Resident Engineer. As the first assignment, the Lead Field Engineer will undertake responsibility for project construction inspection and documentation of a major transit station and substation construction project and will manage assigned Field Engineers. This position will serve as the lead on-site field inspector of all activities related to the construction work and project documentation. The Lead Field Engineer must be able to understand and interpret the construction contract, calculate pay estimates, review and maintain Field Engineer daily reports, file and process paperwork, and have familiarity with specifications and shop drawings. Experience relatable to Rail and Transit, and Design-Build construction projects is beneficial.
POSITION FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Performs tasks related to all field engineering activities in a construction project or multiple concurrent construction task orders. The work location is determined by the project field assignment and involves a combination of office and work site visits.
· Implements and utilizes an established file system and procedures, logs and tracks incoming daily progress reports originated by oneself or assigned field engineers, ensures that field work incorporates latest contractor submittals and is documented on as-built set of drawings, and checks that project payment quantities are consistent with project progress.
· Prepares time and material changed work documentation and calculations.
· Performs contract specification and drawing research for assigned field engineers if required.
· Take initiatives to ensure that all specified quality control tests and inspection records are submitted in a timely manner and corrective actions implemented, if necessary, by the contractor.
· Other field engineering tasks and duties assigned by the Project Resident Engineer.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· The Lead Field Engineer is Safety and Quality minded
· Knowledge of construction documentation and project filing systems
· Proficiency in MS Office – Excel, word; some experience in a database program
· Knowledge of computer software tools: eBuilder, PlanGrid, LoadSpring
· Ability to work independently, and take initiative to perform tasks and meet deadlines
· Ability to communicate with project team staff or others.
· Candidate should be detail oriented and organized
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An A.S., B.S. or B.A. degree in an appropriate construction-related, technical, or engineering field is preferred. In lieu of a degree, the candidate’s resume must include verifiable education, training, and experience appropriate for the project. A minimum of five years of building construction and engineering experience directly related to field inspection on significant construction projects is required.
